Let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise. Hebrews 13:15
A “sacrifice of praise” sounds a little weird, doesn’t it? What kind of sacrifice is that? Is it like the kind of sacrifice that happens in baseball when one batter intentionally hits a ball that produces an out but advances another runner? Or is it like giving up something we really value, or selling something we have at less than its value? Those things are sacrifices, but they’re not the kind of sacrifice the Bible verse describes. When we give God a sacrifice of praise, we praise God for everything he has done, no matter what we are going through and no matter how we feel that particular day.
No matter what’s going on in our lives, God is doing something good.
When your problems seem overwhelming and you feel sad, it’s still possible to praise God for his goodness and for all the good things he has done for you. There is something about praising God and saying thanks out loud that helps us
“get it” in our minds. Give thanks for everything God has done for you from giving you toothpaste to helping you get your homework done. And thank him for being our living God.
Dear Lord, Praising you changes me, so I’m going to try to thank and praise you today for how good you are and for all the good things you have done for me. I’m going to offer you a sacrifice of praise. Amen.
