Be Still and Know – February 15

The Lord appeared to Isaac and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham. Do not be afraid, for I am with you.” Genesis 26:24

Have you ever fought with a friend at school and then spent the day feeling lousy? Or argued with a brother or sister and stayed upset even after you had gone to bed? When conflict, stress and worry pile up, it’s easy to keep carrying around the anxiety.

During Jesus’ time on earth, he drew crowds filled with people who loved him and people who hated him. The truth he spoke eventually upset enough people that they plotted to get rid of Jesus any way they could. Sounds pretty
stressful, doesn’t it? The Bible tells how Jesus deliberately took time to be alone with his father, away from his disciples, away from the crowds. In the quiet times and in his quiet heart, Jesus could listen, be renewed, and prepare for what was coming next.

When you are anxious because of disagreements, unfair treatment or other unsettling situations, it makes it difficult to hear God’s voice. But be still and know that God is with you. Step back and rest quietly, so you can hear what God
wants to say. Even Jesus did this.

Dear Father, You know the conflicts I’ve been having and the things that are bothering me. I know you are with me. Help me to first listen to you so I can handle the situation. Amen.
