He called to Daniel in an anguished voice, “Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to rescue you from the lions?” Daniel 6:20
The Bible tells a story about a man named Daniel who was punished by being thrown into a lion’s den. That’s a pretty big punishment, so you might think Daniel had done something really bad, right? Here’s what he did: he prayed to
the living God. That’s it! But in doing so, he broke a law that made it illegal for people to pray to anyone but the king. The day after Daniel had been thrown into the lion’s den, the king came to see if the living God had saved Daniel. Daniel was still alive. The lions had not been able to bite him because God had sent an angel to shut their mouths.
After this miracle, even the godless king understood that Daniel’s God was alive. And Daniel’s God is our God, and he is still alive! So if God is alive, what does it mean for us? It means God can help us every day. It means we can talk
with him about any problem we have. We can pray to him when we need something. We can ask him to help people who are sick or sad or poor. We tell God about our own problems and then listen for his answers. Our living God
wants to help us with our problems. He cares about what we need. He wants us to do what is right and good.
Dear Lord, I am so glad you are alive and that you know all about me. Help me remember to talk with you about everything that happens in my life. Help me live so close to you that I can hear you when you whisper. Amen.
