Practice Makes Perfect – March 3

“Be ready in the morning, and then come up on Mount Sinai. Present yourself to me there on top of the mountain.”
Exodus 34:2-3
How do you wake up in the morning? Are you ready to pop up the moment the sun comes through the window? Or do you pull your covers over your head so you can stay in bed a few more minutes? Do you wake up groggy, hungry,
happy, chatty, quiet, rested? No matter what kind of mood you’re in, wouldn’t it be nice if you could start your day with a best friend? You could share your thoughts with each other, get some encouragement, remember that someone is pulling for you…

Consider meeting your closest friend in prayer every morning. Whether you’re facing a hard day or a fun day, focusing first on God only makes the day better by helping you remember what is important and reassuring you that you’re not alone.

You can start small. You don’t have to pray on your knees or read the New Testament for an hour in order for your quiet time together to be worthwhile.

Checking in with God right away might be just the start of the conversation, but your focus will already be on track.

Dear Lord, It’s nice to know that I can talk to you at anytime. Help me develop the discipline of starting my day with you. Amen.
