The spirit shrieked, convulsed him violently and came out. The boy looked so much like a corpse that many said, “He’s dead.” Mark 9:26
The verse above is taken from a story in Mark 9:14 – 26. A father brought a young boy to Jesus and said that the boy had an evil spirit living inside him. He had been that way since he was very young. Jesus commanded the spirit to come out and only then was the boy no longer tormented. Jesus took him by the hand and raised him up as a normal boy, finally at peace.
The devil is evil and very powerful—although not as powerful as God.
Because he hates us, he tries to get us to do many things that will only harm us, but God is there to help us if we ask. He not only rescues us, he helps us make good choices. Sometimes we have to fight hard to resist what is wrong and do the right thing. To make that easier, don’t entertain risky behavior. Instead, take a stand right away. For example, it is easier to hang out with friends who will steer you right than to continually resist joining friends who make wrong choices.
Poor choices are much easier to resist if you never even toy with them from the beginning.
Don’t let the devil get a foothold in your mind or in your actions. Keep your mind on whatever is true, noble, and right. And never forget that you know the all-powerful God who will help you.
Dear Lord, Please protect my mind and heart. Help me know when something is not good for me. Thank you for protecting me and helping me to make good choices. Amen.
